Karen Uno

(510) 658-3600

Karen Uno has represented insurers for nearly her entire career, providing advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of liability and first party coverage issues and defending their interests in declaratory relief, bad faith and contribution actions and binding arbitrations. Her representation skills combine her technical knowledge, litigation experience and creative problem solving to provide top tier lawyering for her clients. She understands the challenges of the insurance industry and the absolute need for insightful and timely communication with her clients.

Her representation of commercial and personal lines insurers has involved a wide range of risks and coverages from agricultural losses to sexual abuse lawsuits and everything in between, including the development of commercial package policy forms and claims and underwriting procedures. She has served as monitoring counsel on policy limit demand files for a commercial transportation insurer and regularly presents to claims departments on such topics as independent counsel, claim file documentation, enforcing a reservation of rights, significant insurance law decisions, homeowners association/condominium claims, policy limit demands, first party appraisals, habitational claims and personal and advertising injury coverage. At the invitation of JAMS, the Resolution Experts, Karen has participated in round-table discussions with insurance executives, policyholder counsel and other insurer counsel to brainstorm effective strategies for mediating coverage disputes.
